Drake Covers Jet
Drake is on the latest cover of Jet maazine looking more dapper than I’ve seen him look in a long while. Inside he talks about the same shit they always ask him about his music and respect in the game. Here are a few quotes:
On respect in the rap game
“I think that it’s evident that I’m myself, and I think people respect me for that across the board, he says. I get respect from the guys who are respected for being real rapper’s rappers. I get respect from women. I get respect from mothers, fathers and kids. It’s very humbling and flattering and incredible, and I’m honored to be in this position because I get to be myself. And I get a lot of love for it.”
On moving on to the next album
“I think I’m very hard on myself. I don’t really give myself too much time to be happy or celebrate. Like this album, I’m very proud of it. People are giving me great feedback, but at the same time, I’m sitting on my bus already listening to new beats. I’m trying to figure out what I could do better or what my next move is. I’m obsessed with getting better.”
On Spending Habits:
“I bought a platinum Rolex, which is something I’ve always wanted. Everybody raps about Rolex — it’s such a fixture in hip-hop music. But only a certain amount of people can get the platinum one,” he says. The watches cost upwards of $50,000. “The gold one is a staple, and I had that when I first started; I just always said to myself, ‘Yo I wanna be able to get that platinum one and not have to worry about the price.’ I finally was able to get it this year.”
“I just got my mom a new apartment that she loves so much, and I sent my mom and her best friend to Rome for, like, a week. That was really cool because my mom hadn’t been on a vacation in like 20 years,” he says.
@50cent is on the cover of the October 24/31, 2011 issue of JET Magazine.

@homotidbits
@TraceeEllisRoss, star on the new B.E.T series, Read Between The Lines, covers the October 10/17, 2011 edition of JET Magazine.
While I think Tracee is a uniquely beautiful woman and JET could have done her better justice, at least the interview will keep peek your attention:
“I felt like we really did it. And I was always so present and aware of what a gift it was.” Plus, girlfriend was tired. “I don’t think you realize when you’re in the grind, how in the grind you really are. I felt like a basketball player retiring from the NBA.”
“I still laugh out loud as if I’ve never seen it before. The other day I was watching an episode and I tweeted Jill [Marie Jones] and Persia [White] and said, ‘We were amazing!’
~Tracee on the end of the groundbreaking, Girlfriends ( I’m still a #stan)

Sidebar: In regards to that tagline ‘THE HOTTEST HBCU HOMECOMINGS’ … of course it’s Howard #HU !

@v_SIMMONS & @AngelaSimmons cover JET MAGAZINE; available September 12, 2011.
I totally understand that some people have been misled to believe that black everything is the ultimate sign of <bitchy quotation fingers> ”New York chic”, but <boo-boo face> I don’t like this cover. You totally wouldn’t know that these are two bubbly chicks who aren’t afraid to smile #WhySoSerious, actually it kinda makes me wanna hate them just cus.
::kanye shrug:: I digress.
@homotidbits
@justsanaa covers the September 5, 2011 issue of JET Magazine.
I loved her in Love&Basketball, I adored her in Brown Sugar, She became my #FriendInMyHead after The Best Man, I had #Wettdreams when she guest starred on Nip/Tuck, I wanted to Bitch slap her myself in The Family That Prays, and I gave her a standing ‘O’ after seeing By The Way, Meet Vera Stark on Broadway … I just absoulutly L.I.V.E for me some Sanaa McCoy Lathan [in the #Faghag way, not the creepy stalker way … just needed to clarify]
<snapofapproval> and who would have thunk it ? She’s almost 40 ! [shock&awe] , but I tried-ta-done-told-ya … good black don’t cra-aaa-ck, Yes ma’am.
@homotidbits
Don’t call it a comeback … call it ‘Back to Funny Business’
I told y’all a little while back about @realctucker ‘s 18 city comedy tour, we’ll now he is hitting the cover of JET Magazine to spread the word.
On newsstands August 22
@homotidbits
Please go see ‘The Help’ in theaters Wednesday, August 10, 2011 … that’s tomorrow!
The ladies of @helpmovie cover the August 15, 2011 issue of JET magazine [They could have had Emma Stone on there for some diversity #justsayin]
“If you protest ‘The Help’ and don’t want to see it onscreen, then you will see nothing. It will be replaced by nothing. If you don’t see it you are giving a very strong message to Hollywood because it is a predominantly African-American cast in a project released by a major studio. So go. If you don’t like it, have the honest and passionate discourse and come away with something. Then we can move forward. You’ve got to be the change you want to see.”
~Viola Davis on why you should see ‘The Help’ #Preach
“If anything you should come and support us because how many African-American-based films are there going to be this year? Not very many. How many African-American movies show the gamut of age, size and beauty? Not only are two of the three leads African-Americans, but there are several of us with substantial roles.”
~Octavia Spencer on supporting films with African-American leads
Now that we’ve got the pleasantries out of the way …
<clears throat>
With all due respect [my daddy raised me right] Cicily Tyson that is NOT your face … give it back #V #S.A.W. I can’t, stop it.
@homotidbits
DISCLAIMER: I love nerds… because if you can’t learn from the motherfuckers around you, why are they there?? @LupeFiasco just does it for me. He may think I’m crazy because this is like my 3rd time mentioning his ass today (I tweeted that I’m going to marry him).
He is currently on the cover of @GetJetMag and I got the issue and I read the article (mmhm. yup). Let me tell you what stuck with me out of the whole story of his fans rallying outside of Atlantic and Lasers being his third album. THE WAY HE WAS RAISED! I always say that when I have kids, I want to be the first one to tell them what the world is dying to traumatize them with. His dad showed him a gun at 4 years. So when the gangsters in Chi-town tried to “WOW” him with it, they were powerless because his dad already taught him about them. I’m so sure that he’d do the same for his kids. Oh! And he can fight!! So if anything goes down, I’ll feel safe. That’s what I need in a husband and father to my kids.
(This is long winded… #ShrugofKanye)
So @LupeFiasco, when we meet, don’t be alarmed. I’m not throwing myself at you or nothing crazy. I’ma just send you the vibe so we can have a conversation. Lol
