Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown To Perform At Grammy’s

 The Grammy’s are this coming Sunday and so we’re hearing about all the acts set to perform. We already told you about the Etta James tribute, Adele and Rihanna who will appear with Coldplay, but Nicki Minaj, who will be debuting the track “Roman’s Holiday”, and Chris Brown are also set to perform. Nicki is nominated for Best New Artist, Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance. Chris is nominated for Best Rap Song and/or Best Rap Performance (is that the same thing as Nicki?) and Best R&B Album. 

I always think it’s very risky to do new material in a high pressure situation like that, but then if you pull it off it’s 5x greater so I guess it evens out. I hope this single is better than “Roman In Moscow” cause that was not too promising. 

Chris Brown performing is a pretty big deal actually. This is the first time he’ll be attending the Grammy’s since his domestic abuse incident with Rihanna. Could it be that the industry has finally forgiven Chris? I’d say that this move points to a yes. And how fitting that this redemption would come at the Grammys—the very occasion surrounding the incident three years ago.

He better put on the performance of his life. I’m looking forward to seeing what he comes up with. I hope that they don’t try to be slick and show Rih’s face during the performance…we need to let those two live.

Alicia Keys And Bonnie Rait Will Honor Etta James At Grammy’s   It has been announced that Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt will perform together at the Grammy’s in honor of the late Etta James. I’m glad that they’re honoring her, not really sure how I feel about the Alicia pick though. I’ve never listened to Bonnie Raitt’s music so I cannot speak to whether or not she’s a good choice. Maybe I’m a little biased after hearing Christina Aguilera at her memorial service, because despite her dripping issues, she KILLED that performance. Who do you think will have the better tribute Sins—Alicia and Bonnie or Christina?

Christina Wasn’t Bleeding, She Was Tanning  So a few days ago, we reported about Christina Aguilera dripping at the Etta James memorial service. Come to find out it wasn’t her period as we originally thought, but the remnants of a spray tan that clearly wasn’t done properly. We got (and are still getting) a tremendous number of responses from you guys getting at Dot for being “childish” and “further embarrassing” Christina and saying that it’s nothing to be ashamed of and that we as a society should show periods more because it is a natural part of life.  Listen, I am always down for women’s empowerment and I will agree that a period is nothing to be ashamed of. However, I’m still not gonna condone having menstruation blood streaming down your legs in public. Natural or not, that’s not something that anyone wants to see. That’s like saying I should go around with shit stains cause everybody does it right? -__- Y’all need to leave Dot alone and stop all that noise.   Anywho, for the few of you who said that it was a spray tan, kudos. You have a good eye. With this better close up picture, it is a bit easier to tell.

WTF!? Christina Aguleria, You Are Too Old For This Here… The industry mourned the loss of legendary singer Etta James today. Many came out to pay their respects including Stevie Wonder, Reverend Al Shaprton, and singer Christina Aguilera, who seemed to be having an issue with Mother Nature in plain sight. When this pic was sent to me I seriously thought it was photoshopped because there is no way in hell a grown ass woman has accidents like THIS in public. But then I got my hands on the video below, and it’s clear she is aware that she’s having a situation from the moment she walks out on stage. Once the camera crew got wind of what was going on, they started to zoom in real close and zoom out really far… Still, I can’t believe she didn’t tell them to hold the fuck up while she got herself together. We women have to go through a bunch-o shit when it comes to our bodies, but by 31 you should have your monthly visit from Flow WELL under control. Um… On a positive note, she completely kills Etta’s “At Last” and in true entertainer form she kept the show going. Christina’s voice still gives me goosebumps. Bitch can sang. but fuck all that. You get yourself some Always with wings and make sure you’re not bleeding across stages.

Adele honors Etta James on her blog. Great little post, but I would have preferred to hear her sing one of Etta’s songs. I know, I know… I’m trying to be patient and wait for her to come back to the mic. But it’s haaaard…

Etta James Dies at 73

Legendary singer Etta James died earlier today due to complications from leukemia. Friend and manager, Lupe De Leon made the announcement saying, “This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world. She was a true original who could sing it all — her music defied category. I worked with Etta for over 30 years. She was my friend and I will miss her always.” De Leon also noted that Etta’s sons and husband were by her side when she passed.

Not another one! All the divas are falling ill or dying and I can’t handle it anymore. Etta James is battling Alzheimer’s disease, leukemia and a blood infection. I mean seriously, how much can one person take? And to top it off, there’s family drama with her husband trying to get power of attorney from her sons so he can handle her estate. Smh. Prayers out to Etta. Insomniac Belle
